Build protection before a scam arrives
A few repeatable habits can reduce both the chance and impact of fraud. No tool makes anyone scam-proof, so combine technical safeguards with an independent verification routine.
Secure accounts and devices
Use unique passwords in a reputable password manager. Turn on multifactor authentication—prefer an authenticator app or security key where offered. Install updates, review recovery details, and remove unknown sessions or remote-access software.
Create a payment pause
Never move money to a “safe account,” share a verification code, or pay by gift card because an unexpected contact demands it. Before a new payment or changed invoice, stop and confirm through a known channel.
